We have recently started our Eric Carle author study! We are very excited to get to know all about him and his books. We are reading and writing about him everyday in Readers and Writers Workshops and we have even commented on his blog! We will be very excited if we get a response from him!

You have a fabulous blog! Your students and their parents are very lucky! An Eric Carle book study - that is AWESOME! I taught Kindergarten for 20 years and one of my favorite science/literature connections was reading "The Very Lonely Firefly" and then making our own "fireflies" We would hydrate those Water Jelly Crystals you put in your plants (the ones without fertilizer, of course) then coat the crystals with glow-in-the-dark-powder (http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/product/1586) and stuff the mixture into a plastic test tube. This makes a non-toxic glow stick and we would use them to re-enact the story!

Dream more than others think is practical.
Expect more than others think is possible.
